The Pen Pal Revival: Why “Dear” Is Making a Comeback

In a world of instant messages, voice notes, and emails fired off without punctuation (or pause), something quietly beautiful is happening: the pen pal revival. Pinterest boards are filling with wax seals, fountain pens, pastel envelopes, and carefully chosen stationery. Searches for “handwritten letters,” “pen pal ideas,” and “vintage stationery” are rising, and with them, a longing for something slower, more thoughtful, and more human.

Life Lessons from a Cardboard Box: Building Character One Box at a Time

"They "say big things come in small packages. But if you ask me, the best things come in giant, empty ones.

Seriously, think about it. Have you ever watched a kid abandon their shiny new toy just to play with the box it came in? If so, you know exactly what I mean. Duck and Cover: The Quirky Safety Drills That Shaped Generations

Ever wonder why we cling to 'duck and cover' drills and other outdated safety protocols?

I can honestly say that I haven't thought much about either "ducking" or "covering" since I was a kid practicing that drill in grade school. However, a few months back, I was in Las Vegas and found a nondescript museum with little signage identifying an atomic museum. Curiosity got the best of me, and I spent hours in the archives. Since our grandkids' school is about to start, this blog felt timely.

The Impact of Fictional Stories on Childhood Development: Balancing Imagination and Reality

When our middle child was six months old, my dad used to shake his head from side to side while saying "yes" instead of nodding up and down for "yes" and side to side for "no." Some of the grandchildren found it curious, but our son, who even at that age knew the correct gesture, would cry. Grandfather immediately stopped his joke when he realized it could negatively impact the children's emotional development. Other fictitious stories adult children share include parents falsely claiming they were part Indian or mistakenly believing that the abbreviation "PA" stood for their father's town “pa” rather than Pennsylvania. While playing such harmless jokes on children may be fun, it can be challenging when they grow up believing these falsehoods to be true.

A Teen's Journey to Poland: Exploring Roots, Culture, and Family

Embarking on a journey to a foreign land is always an adventure, but for me, a 16-year-old from Chicago, my trip to Poland was not just about exploration—it was a voyage of discovery, connecting with my heritage, family, and the rich culture of my ancestors.
